History at a Glance
Hamirpur was created mainly as a result of trifurcation of the erstwhile Kangra district on 1 September 1972. Name Hamirpur was derived from the name of Raja Hamir Chand who ruled from 1700 to 1740.
Geography and ClimateHamirpur District is situated between 31°25'N and 31°52'N and between 76°18'E and 76°44'E. It is situated in lower Himalayas, at the elevation varies from the 400 meters to 1,100 meters.
