Indira Gandhi Medical College

IGMC shimla.jpgIndira Gandhi Medical College Shimla (IGMC), a premier medical institution, was established in the year 1966 as Himachal Pradesh Medical College and later as Indira Gandhi Medical College. It is affiliated to HPU Shimla.

The college was started with 60 students that was later increased to 65 in 1978. The current intake of the college is 100. Postgraduate courses in 16 disciplines were started in 1981. Today total number of PG Degree seats are 81 and 13 in diploma courses.

Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla has also been granted the status of Regional Cancer Center by the Govt. of India. In the year 2005 facility of Open Heart Surgery has been made operational and in 2006 MRI facility has been added. Soon second Cobalt Unit & 64 slice MDCT will be made operational.

The college is having 33 departments equipped with latest machinery and equipments. Multi-storied buildings at Snowdon, Kamla Nehru hospital together contribute 872 beds to IGMC.

Admission

Admission to the MBBS course is made on the basis of HPPMT Test.
