Barog Solan|Tourist Place Himachal Pradesh

Barog is a small hill stations located in the small hill station in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Barog is a cool and calm place at height of 1680m on Kalka Shimla highway. It is a convenient stopover for the tourist to or from Shimla.

Barog is surrounded by pine and oak forests which maintain a moderate temperature in summer. In winter, the temperature can drop near to freezing point. Barog tunnel(1126m) on kalka Shimla railway track is the longest among all 103 tunnels on this track. The Barog tunnel is straightest tunnel in the world whose one end can be seen from the other end. Barog Railway station is one of most attractive station built in the Scottish style on the Kalka - Shimla track.

Barog got its name after an British engineer who was responsible for the construction of a tunnel from both sides of the hill. Unfortunately calculations went wrong and two ends of the tunnel did not meet for which Barog was fined Rupee 1. In the humiliation he committed suicide. After that the place was being called as Barog.

The area is known for its lush green mountains covered with pine forest, high peaks and many others fascinating surroundings attracts lots of visitors every year.

Weather and Climate

The summer season remains quite mild and pleasant with temperature floating around 25-30°C. The months of July and August witness a moderate rainfall.

The Winters are a bit colder here. Temperature ranges from 5 to 15°C. Sometimes higher reaches experiences snowfall.

RAILWAY STATION (3 km) :One of the most attractive station in the Scottish style on the Kalka - Shimla rail route.

DAGSHAI (7 km) :Dagshai is an Army cantonment area. This is small town surrounded by pine trees and has an old church.

SOLAN (8 km ): Solan is one of the most rapidly developing town in india. It is also known as 'Mashroom city'.

JATOLI (15 km) :7 km from Solan this small but beautiful village on Solan - Rajgarh road is famous for Vishal temple of Lord Shiva.

DOLANJI BON MONASTERY (18 km) :5km from OChhghat on Narag-Sarahan road, located the famous Bon Monastery known "Yungdrung Bon Monastery" being run by Yungdrung Bon Monastic Centre.

KAROL GOOFA (17 km) :On the Karol Tibba (2135m) and 8 km from Solan town is an ancient Sidh Goofa(cave) which is considered to be one of the longest Goofa in Himalayan region. It starts from Karol and ends somewhere at Pinjore.

GAURA :Located alongside the Solan - Rajgarh road, this place is famous for Mahasheer fishing in Giri river.

RAJGARH (53 km): A picturesque area with numerous orchards and picnic spots like Habban and Nacchana.

The nearest airport is Jubbar-Hatti, 65 km away. Barog also can be reached by train from Kalka. By road Chandigarh is 62 km and Shimla is 55.
