Bye-election for Bhoranj constituency on 9 April

The Election Commission of India has announced that bye-election for vacant Bhoranj (SC) Assembly constituency of the state will be held on 9 April, 2017 along with 3 Lok Sabha and 12 Assembly seats across the country.

The Bhoranj Constituency fell vacant on 15th, November when veteran leader of Opposition party BJP, Sh ID Dhiman passed away.

This election will be a warm up game for upcoming state assembly election later this year. Both major party will try hard to prove their metal and test their strengths before the real battle. This by-poll will also give a indication about the mood of the voters of the state.

Chief Electoral Officer Shri Narender Chauhan said that the notification of the bye-election would be issued on 14th March and last date of nomination will be 21 March, 2017. The scrutiny of the nominations would be done on 22 March while candidates could withdraw their names by 24 March, 2017.

He said polling would be held on 9 April and counting will be done on 13 April and entire election process would end on 15 April, 2017.

With the announcement of bye-elections on 9 March, 2017 the model code of conduct had come into force in Hamirpur district.

Shri Chauhan said that list of photo electoral rolls for this bye-election had been published on 10 January on the basis of 1 January, 2017 as the qualifying date. The voter list had also been made available on the website of the department www.ceohimachal.nic.in on the link electoral rolls (PDF files).

He said there were 75,719 voters in Bhoranj Assembly segment including 37514 male and 38205 female voters. There were 441 male and 295 female voters in the age group of 18-19 years.
Shri Chauhan said that a Control Room had been set up in the office of Chief Electoral Officer with telephone number 0177-2621551 for general public and 0177-2622721 for media besides a toll free number (1950).
